Medieval Seal Making WorkshopÂ
Step into the shoes of a medieval monk and make a seal for authenticating a grant - just like those made in Hyde Abbey!  Â
Workshops throughout the day. Pre-booking required, booking opens on 27 August 2026.Â
Whilst the seal making experience is free, there's a small fee if you'd like to take away the seal with an attached certificate authenticating the document.
Have a go at making a tile in the medieval manner! Visitors can choose from a selection of patterns to use in the free tile-making workshop, open for all ages to take part. Be prepared to get your hands dirty! (For a fee, visitors can have their tiles fired and glazed for collection early in 2027.)

Talk by Tom Chamberlain - How were Winchester Cathedral’s 13th century inlaid tiles made?
The talk will look at the types of tiles that were made in medieval times, how I've developed skills and techniques to replicate the original work and include a demonstration of the ways I've found to recreate the tiles.

Guided Walk - The Rise and Fall of Hyde Abbey 1110-1538
For just over 400 years, Hyde Abbey was home to Benedictine monks. It endured external conflicts and damage through the centuries until its final blow and deconstruction during the Dissolution of the Monasteries - and with it, the disappearance of the grave of King Alfred.
11.30-1pm, 4-5.30pm. Â Pre-booking required, booking opens on 27 August 2026.
Hyde in Living Memory – Everyday Histories
A conversation. This is an opportunity to meet with a panel of residents, some of whom have lived in Hyde for decades and remember shops, people and Hyde events of long ago.
6-7pm. Pre-booking required, booking opens on 27 August 2026.
Exhibition of Finds. What's been discovered under our feet and gardens in Hyde?Â
Come and see the finds discovered in local gardens during community excavations from 2016-23 and talk to experts about their significance.
10-2pm, 3-5pm. No booking - just drop in!
