After each of the 2016-2023 community digs, the finds were sorted into material types (e.g. pottery, bone, metal, stone) and stored. These were then collated across the years and sent to specialists.
The worked stone finds were processed during Autumn 2025. Each of the stones that showed evidence of having been worked in some way was weighed, measured, drawn, and photographed by our volunteer finds processors.
Some of the stone types such as flint and chalk are found locally, others came from much further afield. The type of stone was identified by Dr. Dave Stewart and all details recorded.
Drawing on the evidence from these finds, Dr. Stewart will now prepare our specialist stone report.
