King Alfred can be drawn in his likeness or you can give him a modern twist and draw him how you may think he would look in the 21st Century.

Materials needed

Paper or card, pencil, colouring pens/pencils, paints whichever you prefer!

Getting Started

We would love to see your pictures of King Alfred the Great, the best known of all the Anglo-Saxon rulers.  He created fantastic laws, fought the Vikings and made peace so that the English and Vikings settled down and lived together. Alfred the Great is a very important figure in Winchester’s history, he made Winchester his capital city and was buried in Hyde Abbey.

For your drawing, you could use ideas from existing pictures of this famous king, or you can put your own modern twist on Alfred and draw what he may have looked like had he lived in the 21st Century.  If you have the chance, you could even go and visit the impressive statue of King Alfred in the Broadway on Winchester High Street.  Also if you find out any information about King Alfred, you could try including it on your picture to share what you have learnt.

Here are some of the pictures created by the Hyde 900 team; we hope that you enjoy creating your picture!
