7.15 pm Lecture starts

The recent discovery of an underground drainage culvert during the Hyde900 excavations aroused huge public and media interest. Architectural historian Dr John Crook has explored and studied medieval drains for over 50 years, and in this illustrated talk he will set the Hyde discovery in the wider context of monastic drainage systems. He will discuss the way monastic drains were set out and built, and the light these underground structures can shed on the layout of vanished monastic buildings.

Followed by an informal Q & A and a glass of wine.

Tickets £12 (£10 or Hyde900 members, Under 16s free).
