October 20th – 23rd

Winchester

Welcome to the King Alfred Weekend 2022

The Hyde900 King Alfred Weekend is held annually; as close as possible to the anniversary of the King’s death on 26th October 899 which, this year, falls on a Wednesday.

As the lay church for the Abbey, St Bartholomew’s has long commemorated the occasion. Since the Hyde Abbey 900th anniversary celebrations in 2010, Hyde900 has organised a programme celebrating the Hyde area history which we have uncovered – along with more contemporary events, including music, and walking tours conducted by a local expert.

Unusually, this year’s King Alfred Weekend starts on a Thursday, with Hyde900 hosting an evening of ‘All things Hyde’. This is an opportunity for the community to get together over some wine and cheese, and to receive updates from the community groups of Hyde on their work over the past year and their thoughts for the future.
