We are delighted to welcome from Cambridge, Professor Simon Keynes one of the UK’s leading experts on the age of King Alfred and, in particular, on the Liber Vitae which was was probably the outstanding manuscript held in the library of Hyde Abbey. Now in the British Library the Liber Vitae lists the names of brethren and benefactors of the New Minster, Winchester, recorded for commendation to God during daily mass. It was supplemented by beautiful illustrations and a number of key document including the will of King Alfred. This is an exceptional opportunity to hear from a world leading scholar.
From 7.00 pm in St.Bartholomew’s Church, King Alfred Place, Winchester
Professor Keynes’ talk will be preceded by an update from Alan Lovell, Chair of the Hampshire Cultural Trust about the developing plans for the ”Winchester – The Royal City’.
