4.00 pm, St Bartholomew’s Church

An opportunity to see a preview of the new play based on material revealed by the team researching the history of the Bridewell, the prison which stood in Hyde in the 18th and 19th centuries on the Abbey site. This documentary-style drama focuses on the stories of the ‘lewd women’ who were imprisoned in the Bridewell and includes poetry and music.
The play is written by Cecily O’Neil, who adapted and directed Venus and Adonis for the William Shakespeare anniversary celebrations in Winchester in 2016.
‘The burial site of the immortal Alfred is at this moment a receptacle for crime.’ – Charles Ball, 1818.
