Janet Theodore – Landlady of the Hyde Tavern

JAN THEODORE MA (Ed) is the first daughter of a Sussex bank manager. She trained at Borough Road College, in Isleworth, as a Junior/Secondary Maths and English teacher. After a few temporary jobs, she got married, and worked as Robert Hillier’s PA. Her two girls Kate and Ruth were born and she worked as basic skills teacher at Winchester Prison. She was released 20 years later, having achieved a lot as Education Manager and a member of the European Prison Association.

Jan represented the UK as a Prison Parenting educator and this took her to prisons throughout Europe. Now, here she is, running the Hyde Tavern.

Rose Burns

ROSE BURNS is a criminal barrister and has been a Hyde resident for more than seven years. Her work takes her to Crown Courts around the South East, where she prosecutes and defends in equal measure in cases involving serious offences: many of her cases involve those with mental health problems.

Having enjoyed the challenge of her first two years as a City Councillor, Rose takes a keen interest in local issues. She has been a trustee of Hyde900 for some years and is very appreciative of the opportunity to take part in its various cultural and historic projects. She is also on the PCC of St Bartholomew’s Church.

Rose’s Burmese cats, pond fish and garden occupy what spare time she has left – as well as the occasional drink in her local hostelry, the unique Hyde Tavern.
